The Blackout – first requested on the call-in show last Monday night – was a smashing success as Georgia routed Auburn 45-20 this past Saturday. That big win makes the game this Saturday vs. Kentucky (12:30, LF) even more important as the Dawgs continue to chase big things in both the SEC and bowl picture. Also, kickoff time for the Tech game Nov. 24 is set – 3:30, ABC.

Munson opened tonight – college football dominated by offense. He noted lots of top teams in conferences that kept falling by the wayside, especially Ohio St. & Michigan.

Lots of real shootouts on Saturday – some well rated and good teams too. Munson went through a list of teams. Munson was surprised at how well we shut down Auburn. Now Kentucky comes in with a loaded offense. This Saturday could really be wild.

Jeremy in Memphis opened up tonight – it’s great to beat Auburn & Florida in the same year. Challenge Bailey & MoMass to beat their man the next two games. And he liked us throwing to Southerland. CMR – The threat of the deep ball can be effective even if you don’t always hit it. If your WR runs by a DB it leaves an impression on the DB and on defensive coaches.

I congratulated Richt on beating both a good Auburn team and officials who seemed to have some grudges from Jacksonville. After the big win over Auburn, the UK game is that much more important, and hope the fans understand that even with the 12:30 kickoff. CMR agreed and just wants the fans to be there early and be loud. Also, Richt had nothing specific regarding any certain color this week.

Jerry hoped we would have gone with black pants to go with the black jerseys. He pointed out lots of young player who really came through. CMR agreed young players coming forward is part of what has fans excited. By the time you get to game 11, you’re not a young player anymore.

Bert in Roswell agreed with my comments on the officials, and noticed how Richt dealt with that. He was impressed with how CMR has really gotten the kids excited and hopes the picture of Stafford from the UK game last year is on the bulletin board.

If the fans are there in numbers at the Dawg Walk, it means a lot. If the students are there early, it means a lot. If the fans are there giving it the same amount of spirit, it means a lot. That spirit has a profound effect. It’s amazing to see when everyone gets together with one purpose. Just being there, being loud, being in the game and not just waiting. UK likes to get to the line and change the play almost every time. It will be a challenge. When they have the ball we need to be as loud as we can to try and disrupt that. If the fans need to rest do it while we’re on offense, so we can call our audibles.

Eddie in Acworth – keep putting 45 up and he’ll wear whatever they want. Comment on Sean Bailey. When you’re in the locker room, are we talking about the big picture, or is it just one game at a time? CMR thinks the offense is doing great. The defense has to also play well – getting turnovers and stops. We don’t talk much about the big picture, though you can hardly avoid it sometimes. But we know the big picture isn’t very pretty if we don’t take care of business this week. Remember, UK was losing to LSU by 13 late in the 3rd qtr., but was strong enough to come back. Everyone has to get jacked up and focus only on Kentucky.

Jimmy in Tupelo wonders if we’re at the point where we can just reload. Also, about Caleb King. CMR said King is redshirting and also had a pulled muscle some time back. He isn’t too sure about reloading, but we’re recruiting well and need to stay together. No matter how good you are, there are lots of others right there going after it too.

Calvin in Elijay also loved the black jerseys, even after a few initial doubts (kind of a purist). He was really impressed with how CMR got everyone to buy in. What’s the thinking with some of these high, short, sideline kicks. CMR – again, the black jersey thing wouldn’t have really worked if the fans hadn’t fully bought in. The players loved it and it looked like the fans were proud of themselves and their fellow fans.

On kickoffs – we’ve been predictable. Every once in awhile we need to throw people a curve ball. We just about got one on our sideline. It wasn’t too risky since it was around the 35 or so. We were just trying to mix it up and didn’t want them to be able to set up a return.

Clay in Guyton said Johnny Cash would’ve been proud of CMR in his all black. Richt laughed and wished he could sing like him. Clay thinks the Florida game was our coming out party. Are the refs getting flag-happy after the Florida game. CMR said they have a hard job and he tries not to get critical. The main reason is he’s never coached a perfect game so he doesn’t expect it from them either. About Rogers Redding – when coaches call in, he’s pretty honest about stuff with them. Overall, the SEC officials are very good.

Jim in Lincolnton congratulated CMR on the big win and thanked him for his overall leadership. Jim also noticed Stafford looking over to CMR and giving him a wink after hitting a big pass in the 3rd qtr. (watching on TV).

Nick in Flowery Branch thanked FSU for sending us one of the best coaches he’s ever seen. Were the recruits in the locker room during the “lights out” ceremony & the black jerseys. CMR said he was in the coaches’ room when this happened. He heard it and it was wild. Richt was changing into his all-black gear. He didn’t want to walk out until they had settled down. That’s at 8 minutes pior (the captains are sent out at 5 min.). Any recruit who was at this game couldn’t have helped but love this atmosphere. You couldn’t draw it up any better. It was surreal and like being in a movie scene.

Munson .. one of the movie group (who tutors at UGA & Tech) said she thought the black jerseys were the sexiest thing she’d ever seen. (8:36 pm)

8:38 .. AC/DC Back in Black bumper coming back from commercial break… (That music was ringing in my head all day Sunday!)

Phillip in Buckhead (fan since the 1950s) thinks woofing isn’t loud enough and thinks we ought to get noise meters, then coordinate stuff against their cadence. CMR wonders if its like going to church, knowing a certain song, then suddenly trying to learn a new song.

Davis in Kennesaw noticed a chat board post from Saturday before the game – a takeoff on A Few Good Men. Also, going to the game .. just having fans and players just meet. That was between the 3rd/4th quarters. He also mentioned CMR saying all off-season about how this team would be good at some point.

CMR – knew we’d struggle some early on. You can’t just snap your finger for experience. He just hoped we were good enough early. Just to know you’re playing your final SEC game and still fighting for the SEC East title…

Terry in Snellville also asks about penalties. He thinks it isn’t just UGA, but all around. He thinks the refs are trying to determine the outcome of games. CMR thinks our games are just that intense. Fans are off the chains, guys really getting after each other, sometimes blocking right up to the whistle and maybe after sometimes. It is a big monster to try to control a game that is that intense.

Terry in Lincolnton – will we ever pull out throwbacks, including the silver helmets. CMR said anything is possible. We’d have to study old film. If we did it, we’d rather surprise everyone instead of announcing it in advance. The effect would really be big.

That bumper music at 8:47 .. Black is Back .. oldies sound? …. (Name That Tune is not my specialty.)

Sage in Atlanta noticed CMR’s intensity and liked it. Sage played at West Ga. and thought the good coaching he got was reflective of the coach’s family life. So he wants CMR to comment on good family life and good coaching. CMR said sometimes its hard to carve out the time. But one good thing is the family can get involved. Game days – Katharyn is there and Anya is with her, and David is also helping now. Zach is running around the house and Jon is watching the game with his buddies.

CMR said his kids were most excited after the Florida win not so much over that win but over being bowl-eligible. They love bowl game trips.

Kim in Senoia likes the “milling around” kickoff formation. CMR – most everyone who has a kickoff return has assignments. It’s easier when you line up normal. Milling around makes it harder for the return team.

Wes in Athens notices this team is at its best when its emotional and reckless, whereas the 2002/2003 teams were more business-like and played their best that way. CMR – you have to figure out what button to push. Being fair does not always mean being equal. Some guys need an arm around them and some need

We want to be excited but also want to stay disciplined. We’ve had too many penalties and need to make sure we don’t have any that get us beat.

Paul in Centre, AL thanked CMR and wants CMR to thank the team for bragging rights over Bama & Auburn. He was concerned about how the defense had to tone down a bit after a couple of late hit penalties he thought were questionable. CMR – you fight so hard to get guys to play fast and hard right up to the whistle. You don’t ever want a guy to hit after the whistle but you want them to play right up to it. You want to do it right and not take the spirit out of guys.

Burton in Wrens asked about the OL and its success – Velasco’s leadership? CMR agreed. Velasco kept those puppies together all during summer workouts and helped them learn the ropes.

In closing – CMR thanked everyone for their support and wants us to do it one more time!
