"SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS"
A NOD TO OUR SOLDIERS
No matter your political views, all Americans anxiously await the safe return
of our brave U.S. soldiers. As of April 1, 2003, 17 UGA students have been called
to active duty representing each division of the armed services, Army, Navy,
Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Though their names are a matter of privacy,
the UGA Alumni Association remembers them and all U.S. soldiers, with yellow
ribbons outside of the Alumni Association headquarters.
Breaking News...UGA Grad and Watkinsville, Georgia native Captain Chris Carter
'95, commander of A Company part of the 3rd Battalion, 7th regiment of the 3rd
Infantry Division (Mechanized) is being hailed as a hero for saving an Iraqi
woman caught in crossfire on a bridge outside of Hindiyah. Carter rescued the
woman and she was then placed in an ambulance.
If you have information about UGA alumni presently serving in Operation Iraqi

UGA CREW ARSON ATTACK
On Thursday, March 13th, the UGA crew team's newly finished boathouse was set
on fire. As a result, six of eight UGA rowing shells were rendered un-rowable.
A great deal of other equipment including tools and electronic equipment for
the boats was destroyed. Estimated damage to the boats alone is over $80,000.
Though the sport continues at UGA despite the arson, the UGA Crew team is asking
for financial support to help the team recover from this loss. The UGA Alumni
Association has sent the team a financial contribution. Anyone wishing to donate
to the "UGA Rowing Relief Fund" can make a deposit at any Wachovia
bank or donations may be mailed to:
