The UGA Alumni Association urges everyone in Athens and those attending the UGA football game on Saturday, September 3 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina by giving to the "Classic City for the Crescent City" relief effort. The Salvation Army local branch is bringing its familiar holiday "kettles" out of storage to help collect donations for hurricane victims in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama in their time of need. Look for the red kettles around Athens on Saturday, and please take the opportunity to give to this worthy cause. All proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army and American Red Cross relief funds.
"Classic City for the Crescent City" is being coordinated by the Advertising Federation of Athens. The goal of the program is to raise more than $20,000 for hurricane victims and offer tangible aid to those in need. For information on volunteering to assist in the collection or other questions, please call Brian Brodrick at (706)354-0470.
