Munson’s opening remarks .. we almost had a fourth week in a row of monster upsets – but not quite. Ohio St. & Texas games were highlighted. Also Va. Tech & FSU needing OT to win, and #16 Pitt getting shot down by West Virginia. Holtz’s SC team had Florida by the throat but couldn’t quite hold on. As far as this BCS stuff is concerned, we’re being told to forget about it and keep playing out the string, since we have to win every game now to even have a chance to talk about it.
Munson then commented to CMR that we really looked ready to play, and noticed big plays on offense to go with big plays on defense. CMR said it started with the fans, who were into the game and didn’t wait for something to happen. The Dawg Walk was the best of the year. We’ve got to have that again this week. It is crucial that we don’t have to get started in the second half. The Dawg Walk will be a key this week as well (11 am - the customary 90 min. before kickoff).

On offense, we held the ball more than 10 minutes in the first quarter. Greene didn’t have to scramble around much. We chewed up 10-12 minutes on our first couple of drives even though we didn’t score TDs early.

The middle of the OL was patched up and a couple of shotgun snaps were scary. Nick Jones got excited a couple of times. Velasco was able to play guard and Tanner was able to play center & guard.

Our defense played very well and stopped their run when Auburn tried it. But the defensive effort was helped by how we got Auburn out of their rhythm early.

Munson wonders - will the squad believe anything after UK couldn’t do anything with Vandy? CMR reminds that UK has had the most success against our defense since he’s been here. We know they’re capable of scoring a lot of points. And look at how they played Florida to see they are capable on defense.

The first caller complained that Auburn was holding Pollack on the TD they scored. CMR said holding can be called on lots of plays, it’s a judgment call and he’s never coached a perfect game anyway.

The second caller joked about Terry Hoage’s new wine business and told CMR to stay out of that stuff, then thanked CMR for the example he sets for kids needing guidance. He also worries about how the WR corps got down to a bunch of little runts and how we need “stallions” out there.

Also, the idea of honorary captains came from a walk-on a couple of years ago, as a way of exposing the current team to UGA football history and letting the fans honor the former greats. Later in the show (about 8:35), CMR remembered it was Justin Reynolds who had that idea.

CMR said Fran Tarkenton, the honorary captain this week, gave a great talk. Munson remembered Tarkenton hitting a big pass to win us an SEC title in the same corner where Greene has hit some big ones.

David in Grayson – thanked Munson for another great call, to which Munson laughed and said “we’ve got guy running down the sideline” just like at Tennessee.

Sean Jones is feeling better every day; we’re playing it day by day. We’ll put him in as soon as he’s ready. Greg Blue played very well in his absence.

The trick play didn’t get as open as we hoped, but Michael Johnson got it down there very well. MJ laid it up there very well; Fred was getting mauled but kept his right hand free and made the play.

Alan in LaGrange thanked CMR for the win over Auburn and wondered if he might be at some upcoming playoff games. CMR said the assistants get out to games when allowed to be on the road under NCAA rules.

Jeremy from Memphis recited Blue’s stats and gushed over a couple of plays Jennings made. Then he brought back what he said last week about winning the first quarter. Concluding a 75-second recital, he asked whether we would recruit more LBs this year? CMR said we were always looking for talented LBs, then thanked Martinez for his outstanding work getting the back up DBs ready to play in such a big game.

Munson reminded CMR about having to take on Godzilla (for about the 10th year in a row, CMR wonders half-jokingly?) .. CMR said we’d do our best to get him down even if it took several guys to do it. We’re also reviewing film of Abney tonite; he’s a great WR as well as a great return man.

Greg from Gainesville’s first appearance of the year (as best as I remember) – first complimented the crowd, then wondered why Tuberville didn’t know you have to run in the SEC to win. CMR laughed and discussed again how both sides of the ball worked together at knocking Auburn out of rhythm. Also, CMR said several players mentioned after the game that this was the loudest they’ve ever heard the stadium.

Another call suggesting the Georgia-Florida game should be rotated between Jax and the Ga. Dome. CMR said that is not a bad idea and one he’s never heard before. The only ideas he’s heard is home & home or maybe rotating with each campus & Jax.

Mike Gilliam made some great plays on special teams; Richt very proud of his efforts and hard work despite getting very little work in practice in plays from scrimmage.

A caller said CMR called plays with more confidence yesterday than in several games. CMR laughed, then used the start of the Florida game – with Greene being sacked twice on our first possession – as an example of how early plays can impact play calling and force us to feel around to find something that works.

Can we diversify our directional kicking? We were fortunate they had a block in the back on one kickoff. Those problems will be addressed this week. We’ve been very inconsistent on where that ball is coming down (whether its near the 2 or more like the 15). Some substitutes are on that team and need to do the job when starters tire as the game goes along.

Ted from Tybee Island is so proud of the team; this is the first time he’s seen us beat Auburn in Athens. He’s quite worried about the Ga. Southern game next year in light of what has happened to LSU in the BCS because of its schedule. CMR says he’s right that we need to play D-I teams. We’re proud to play Ga. Southern as they are a strong program, but he knows it could hurt us.

Toni in Canton thanked CMR for a season that has exceeded expectations in her opinion – which she reminds a girlfriend who is an Ohio St. fan every time they talk about rankings. CMR says he hopes the guys are now excited enough to finish the drill.

Nothing you can do to guarantee you can keep your coaches. If you lose coaches to make lateral moves, you worry about your coaches. You can only hope you lose them to upward mobility. It’s a good sign if that’s why you lose them.

Frank in Duluth thinks no UGA team has ever won the state championships of Alabama and Tennessee two years in a row. As for Jacksonville, that trip might be easier if we’re wearing shirts that say “Back to Back SEC Champs” and that we might want to learn from Tech (with Friedgen) as for how to keep VanGorder.

CMR says they get a good feel for the atmosphere on gameday on the drive from Butts-Mehre to the Dawg Walk. You could really tell it yesterday on a great day, then the largest crowd this season at the Dawg Walk. And the crowd was so into the game it had to be hard for Auburn to really feel comfortable.

Bert in Roswell thanked Munson for a great call and thanked CMR for variation in the offense. Another bit of history for this week would be the chance to go undefeated at home in consecutive years. CMR reminds the team that, of all our SEC Championship teams, only one of them ever lost a game at home.
